Lipids

The majors form of lipid in the body are:

Triglycerides (Triacylglycerides)
Composed of 1 glycerol and 3 fatty acids
Main store of fat in adipocytes
Broken down and metabolised for energy

Fatty Acids
Short/Medium length chains absorbed directly.
Long chains absorbed in chylomicrons
Metabolised for energy

Sterols (inc Cholesterol)
Component of some hormones eg cortisol.

Cholesterol
Component of cell membrane
Constituent of bile
Component of vitamin D

Phopholipids
Main component of cell membrane
